How to resize an image without distorting it

When "Lock aspect ratio" is on, changing the width automatically recalculates the height (and vice versa) to preserve your photo's original proportions, keeping it from looking stretched or squashed. If you use one of the social media presets instead, the size is fixed exactly to what the platform asks for — if your image's aspect ratio is very different from the preset's, the result may look slightly stretched, and we warn you about that before you download.

Resizing isn't the same as compressing: here you're changing pixel dimensions, not necessarily file size. If you also need to shrink the file size, use our image compressor after resizing.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my image look stretched when I use a preset?

Because the preset forces an exact size and aspect ratio. If your original photo has a very different ratio, it will stretch to fill those dimensions. We flag this in the result when it's likely to happen.

Can I make a small image bigger?

Yes, but enlarging it beyond its original size will lose sharpness, since the software can only estimate new pixels — it can't invent detail that wasn't there.

Does resizing reduce file size?

Usually yes, since a smaller image in pixels takes up less space, but for maximum size savings you should also use our image compressor.

Can I resize several images at once?

This tool processes one image at a time for precise control over the result. For large batches, repeat the process for each file.
